A reasonable amount of malware and viruses are always detected with world class real-time protection. The only challenge is that the user interface aims for visual appeal as opposed to user friendliness.

However the paid version offers some top notch features like faster updates, protection against Windows based scripting viruses, ability to run high risk files or sites in a risk free manner and a more realistic web shield.
